The Benefits of Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the most sustainable building materials in the world; it is fast growing, self-regenerating and releases around 35% more oxygen than the equivalent number of trees.

Traditionally used for bamboo screens, bamboo poles and woven bamboo panels, this versatile material is today being transformed into a timber-like product that outperforms softwoods and hardwoods.

After the bushfires of 2020 burnt out much of our timer forests and plantations, strong demand for timber has created a shortage of supply, delays and steep price increases.  Bamboo is a naturally sustainable alternative to timber and is now being engineered into laminated and strand woven engineered bamboo battens, engineered bamboo flooring, engineered bamboo cladding, engineered bamboo decking, bamboo benchtops and more.

Bamboo not only provides a similar finish as timber, but it’s also much lighter and harder than most timbers, making it easier to install and extremely durable.  Bamboo is a far superior choice when it comes to sustainability. Bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than trees and is ready to harvest in as little as 5 years, as opposed to 80 years for Tasmanian oak for example. This flash growth means it can store up to 4 times more carbon dioxide than trees making it a material of choice for specifiers committed to achieving net zero goals. And last but not least, its complex root system binds the earth together, restoring soil health and fighting against soil erosion.

Our engineered bamboo received a Green Rate Level A and Platinum Health Rating from Global GreenTag guaranteeing sustainable manufacturing practices and raw engineered bamboo will fully decompose when returned to the soil.

By choosing bamboo, you are helping us achieve our goals to support sustainable construction, restore our environment and improve world biodiversity.
