The Bayview House

About This Project

Designer: Michael MacCormick, MacCormick-Simonian Architects.

Location: Mosman, NSW.

Products: Bamboo, Natureed®.

This stunning futuristic home consists of two living pavilions resting above a stone podium housing five bedrooms and providing magnificent views of Middle Harbour. The steel structure that tethers the pavilions morphs into an aesthetic, natural dramatic canopy, protecting the outdoor entertaining area from sun and rain, whilst also realizing an inner area of landscaped garden. The use of open space and geometrically arranged natural Tonkin bamboo under polycarbonate roofing creates a seamless ambience of natural light, harbour views and nature, blended with superb modern artistry.

The cane reed supplied by House of Bamboo® continues its tradition of providing natural, sustainable materials highly practical and versatile for imaginative shading and cladding projects. Here, Tonkin bamboo, as with other House of Bamboo products such as Natureed®, provides naturally filtered light ideal for daytime shading but it also enables a soft and natural textured setting, when lit from above at night.

This home gives a fine example of the modern trend to use sustainable, natural materials to help merge a building with its natural surroundings.
