“World First” Bamboo Trophy designed for Landscape Industry Awards

We are very proud at the House of Bamboo to have been invited to design a unique trophy for the recent Annual Landscape Design Institute Awards. These awards were held on the 12^th October 2022, at the stunning 12-Micron, Barangaroo, overlooking Sydney Harbour.

The LDI Awards are the most prestigious landscaping awards in Australia. They recognise and showcase the very best landscape designers & projects from around Australia each year. Under the theme of “Dream Big, Think Big” the award nominees covered landscaping for residential and commercial properties.

We at the House of Bamboo are very proud to be associated with these awards at a time when the Landscape Industry is becoming increasingly aware of using environmentally sustainable and ecologically sensitive materials and practices in creating the gardens of tomorrow.

We are keen to show our support for an industry that recognises the growing use of nature’s most sustainable material – bamboo.

The trophy we made for the LDI awards was created entirely from bamboo. It is believed to be the first of its kind anywhere in the world. Designed in the shape of the LDI logo by the House of Bamboo, the trophy is actually created from 4 separate pieces of engineered bamboo. These different types of bamboo represent the two main manufacturing processes used in the creation of engineered bamboo – laminated and strand-woven.

Each of these elements represent significant evolution in the practical application of the world’s most sustainable building material – bamboo. With materials like bamboo decking now featuring a 25-year warranty and engineered bamboo containing strong, natural glues that last for decades, the landscape industry has a new range of environmentally sustainable materials with which to design the gardens of tomorrow. By choosing bamboo over timber, landscape gardeners are helping to reduce deforestation and soil erosion, improve industry sustainability and help combat climate change.

The trophy was awarded to the Landscape Design of the Year – Phil Antcliff – Fifth Season Landscapes. Like the people who received it, the trophy represents the future of landscape design, a future in which bamboo will increasingly play an important part in boosting the sustainability credentials of the industry.
